SALA Wheatland Crossover Cup

About the SALA / Wheatland Lacrosse Crossover

The SALA / Wheatland Lacrosse Crossover was launched in 2022 with support from the Alberta Lacrosse Association. The initiative was created to help grow the sport in developing lacrosse communities—particularly places like Taber, where new clubs were just beginning to form. For that reason, the very first crossover weekend was hosted in Taber.

This event gives SALA and WLA U17 teams the chance to compete against opponents they wouldn’t normally face during regular league play. It’s designed not only to broaden competition but also to strengthen the sport as a whole.

Held pre-season or early in the season, the crossover also provides valuable opportunities for official mentorship, helping referees and officials gain experience and support as they prepare for the year ahead.

Hosts

2022 - Taber

2023 - Vermillion

Crossover Cup Structure

Win = 5 points

Tie = 3 points

Loss = 0 points

Team with the least penalty minutes each game = 1 bonus point

Maximum of 6 points per game. ( 5 for the win, + 1 for lowest penalties)

Total Points/Total games played = Teams Points

In the event of a tie in point standings in a competition, final standings shall be determined as follows:

  • If two teams are tied, the winner of the game or games between the two teams advances. If a tie still exists, the goal average formula listed below will be used.
  • If three or more teams are tied, and if one team has defeated the other teams with which it is tied after round robin play, the team shall advance.
  • Otherwise, GOAL AVERAGE FORMULA: Only the goals scored in games between the tied teams are used in the goal average formula for tie breaking. The team with the highest ratio advances.
  • Otherwise, GOALS AVERAGE FORMULA: Only the goals scored in games between each other plus common opponents are used in the goal average formula for tie breaking. The team with the highest ratio advances.
  • Otherwise, GOALS AGAINST FORMULA: Using goals for and against in all games played by the tied teams.

                         GOALS FOR

        GOALS FOR + GOALS AGAINST

  • The formula is applied once to rank all tied teams.
